Forumotion offers five different forum types, [[phpBB|phpbb2]], phpbb3 as well as their own version of Invision. Other versions are Modern BB, Awesome BB, and [[PunBB]]. At it's core Forumotion is a heavily modified version of phpBB as depicted in the ACP. Like most free forum hosts, admins can't obtain a database backup of their forum which means they are bound to the host. Despite this, there are admins who are dedicated to the platform who have made impressive themes and plugins for the platform.

''Proboards'' is one of the oldest free forum hosts that's still online. Founded in the year 2000, it has hosted thousands of forums throughout the decades. Vertical Scope is the current owner of the platform, and has been since 2023.

==Features==
Proboards is one of the few forum hosts that offer a global login system making it easy to join other Proboards forums simply by filling out a form with their desired username and their email address. Additionally admins must pay a fee to use a domain name on their forums.

==Controversial Terms of Service==
In September 2026, the Proboards team rolled out a new terms of service that was met with backlash from the community. Staff has been silent in regards of the new update which states that content posted on a Proboards forum can be used to train AI.

			In mid 2026, Cedric had announced that Forum Spark is no longer a free forum host after the release of Forum Spark 2.x. Those who created their forums prior to this change may continue to use Forum Spark 1.0 for free, but new updates will only be available for forums on 2.x.
